HIIRAAN, SOMALIA– Nearly 13 Al-Shabaab fighters confirmed to have been killed in a planned military operation in Hiraan region, the central of Somalia on Monday night, according to military sources.
SNA Military officers who requested not to be named for a condition of anonymity confirmed that SNA Military forces, along with locally armed militias known as “Macawislay” carried out a deadly attack on Al-Shabaab controlled vicinity near Mahas town of Hiiran region.
“The Al-Shabaab remanants resisted the offensive, but later were overpowered by the joint troops from SNA Military and local forces, who finally captured the base of the militants after long hours gunfighting”, said the officer.
Meanwhile Al-Shabaab, the Al-Qaida linked jihadists in Somalia claimed to have killed over 15 soldiers in the attack, and wounding several others.
There are no independent sources verifying the claims of both warring sides in Hiran region, Hirshabelle state,but Somali government has had the upper hand in the latest military operations in central regions.
