Severe Drought in the Xasbahalle Area of Nugaal Region

|

Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – Severe water shortages have been reported in several areas of Eyl District in the Nugaal region, after local wells for both people and livestock have dried up.

Affected areas include the Xasbahalle community, where the main wells that were traditionally used for drinking water have run dry, according to the local chairman, Siciid Saleebaan Mire.

The chairman noted that both residents within the town and those in surrounding rural areas are now facing extreme water scarcity and lack the means to travel long distances in search of water. He added that they have had to source water from communities in Garowe District.

Officials in Eyl say they have repeatedly raised alarms with the regional administration and humanitarian organizations, but they emphasized that no aid has yet reached the affected areas within the district.

Although water shortages are widespread across Puntland, the situation in Xasbahalle is particularly severe and differs from other affected regions.
