Garowe (Kaab TV) – More than seven people, most of them children, have died from lack of water in areas of Jariiban District in Mudug Region.
The Governor of Mudug Region, Faysal Sheikh Ali “Jifo-Jabsade,” confirmed the incident and issued an urgent warning about the severe water and pasture shortages affecting the entire region. He said the situation has reached a critical level.
All regions of Puntland are experiencing acute water shortages caused by prolonged drought, following the failure of the expected Deyr and Gu rainy seasons last year.
As a result, water reservoirs, ponds, and wells have dried up.
There are growing concerns for the lives of pastoralist communities, who are facing extreme shortages of food and water.
Hundreds of families displaced by the drought have moved into towns and urban centers across Puntland in search of survival.
Displaced people who arrived in towns and villages told Puntland Post media outlets that, so far, they have received no humanitarian assistance from the government or international aid organizations.
