Washington (KAAB TV) – The U.S. Secret Service shot an armed man near the White House who was suspected of attempting to carry out an attack.

CNN reported that at the time of the gunfire, President Donald Trump was not at the White House, as he was at his private residence in Florida.

The suspect, who was shot by the Secret Service, was rushed to the hospital with injuries. His condition remains unclear, according to a statement from the U.S. Secret Service.

Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the Secret Service, confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that no officers were injured in the incident.

The Secret Service had received an early warning from local police about a man with suicidal tendencies who had traveled from Indiana to Washington, D.C. In the middle of the night, authorities found the man’s car parked near the White House. They then spotted an individual nearby, matching the description provided by local police.

“When officers approached the man, he pulled out a weapon, prompting an armed confrontation,” the Secret Service said in a statement. “The officers responded by opening fire.”

The Washington Police Department confirmed that detectives from the U.S. Department of the Interior are investigating the incident, though no further details have been released.
