The United States is reportedly moving forward with the operational phase of a military facility in Bosaso, Puntland’s commercial capital, following what local sources describe as a recent cooperation agreement between Puntland authorities and the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM).
According to sources familiar with the matter, the first phase of the facility’s activation could involve approximately 400 personnel, including around 300 civilian contractors and support staff alongside 100 military personnel.
However, neither the U.S. government, AFRICOM, nor Puntland authorities have publicly confirmed these figures.
The reports also claim that preparations are underway in Puntland to support the deployment and related operational requirements.
Sources further allege that the United States will provide financial assistance aimed at strengthening Puntland’s security institutions, including support for defense and security forces.
Details regarding the scale of the assistance, the number of personnel involved, command arrangements, and recruitment procedures have not been officially announced.
The reported recruitment process has already generated discussion within Puntland, with local sources indicating that government officials and individuals connected to state institutions are seeking influence over the selection of personnel.

The reported development comes after Puntland received international recognition for its military operations against Islamic State (ISIS) militants in the Al Miskaad Mountains of the Bari region.
