Galgaduud (KAAB TV) – Intense fighting broke out late last night in the Gudoole area of Galgaduud region following the killing of an 80-year-old woman and the wounding of her son, sparking a new round of communal violence that left multiple casualties.
According to local residents and eyewitnesses, the violence began after unidentified gunmen fatally shot the elderly woman in her home and injured her son.
In retaliation, armed members of the victim’s clan mobilized and clashed with the attackers’ militia, triggering hours of fierce fighting that spread across the village.
Reliable sources from the area confirmed to Kaab TV that at least four people were killed on both sides and nine others were injured, including several civilians caught in the crossfire.
The situation remains tense, and sporadic gunfire was reported early this morning.
Local elders and community leaders in Gudoole have begun emergency mediation efforts aimed at calming the situation and preventing further escalation.
They are reportedly working to bring together representatives of the warring clans to negotiate a ceasefire and facilitate the burial of the deceased.
Despite the severity of the clashes, the Galmudug regional administration has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
Security officials have also not commented on whether government forces will be deployed to restore order or to investigate the initial killing.
Clan-based conflicts have long been a challenge in central Somalia, particularly in the Galgaduud and Mudug regions, where historical grievances and competition over resources frequently spark cycles of revenge attacks.
Local observers warn that the renewed violence in Gudoole could destabilize nearby districts unless swift reconciliation efforts are made.
As of this morning, tension remains high in Gudoole and surrounding areas. Residents have expressed fear of further bloodshed if government and community peace initiatives fail to contain the conflict.
