Raila’s Will To Be Buried Within 72 Hours of His Death

Nairobi (KAAB TV) – Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away on October 15, 2025, in India, has requested to be buried within 72 hours of his death. This wish is being honored by his family and the government.

Burial Plans

Raila’s body is expected to arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Thursday, October 16, at 9:00 AM. It will then be transferred to Lee Funeral Home for preparation.

A public prayer service is scheduled for Friday, October 17, at Nyayo Stadium.

On Thursday, the body will lie in state at Parliament to allow the public to pay their respects.

On Saturday, October 18, the body will be taken to Kisumu for public viewing at Moi Stadium. Later that day, it will travel to Bondo for an overnight stay.

The burial ceremony is set for Sunday, October 19, at Raila’s Opoda farm in Siaya County, in accordance with his Anglican faith and family traditions.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, co-chair of the National Funeral Committee, confirmed that the government is adhering to Raila’s wishes for a swift burial.

The committee is working closely with the family to ensure all arrangements are made promptly.

President William Ruto has declared a seven-day national mourning period, during which flags will fly at half-staff, and has announced that Raila Odinga will be accorded a state funeral.

The funeral proceedings are being conducted with full state honors, reflecting Raila Odinga’s significant contributions to Kenya’s democratic journey.
