Russian President Vladimir Putin has conveyed Iran’s position on a possible resolution to the war to US President Donald Trump, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, as diplomatic efforts to end the conflict continue.
Peskov said Putin relayed Tehran’s views in coordination with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian following discussions between the Russian and Iranian leaders earlier in the week.
The message was conveyed during a phone call between Putin and Trump on Friday, according to reports from Russian media.
“In coordination with the president of Iran, Putin conveyed to Trump the Iranian side’s view on a possible resolution of the conflict,” Peskov said.
The Kremlin has not disclosed the specific conditions or proposals Iran communicated to Washington, nor has it detailed Trump’s response. The precise terms of any potential agreement therefore remain unclear.
The diplomatic initiative comes amid continued efforts to find a negotiated end to the conflict between Iran and the United States and Israel.
Putin has expressed willingness to help facilitate a settlement, while Moscow has maintained contacts with both Tehran and Washington.
In a separate development, Trump announced an agreement with Putin under which Russia would supply diesel fuel to the United States and international markets in an effort to ease rising energy prices.
Trump said Russia would immediately supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel, followed by another 500,000 tonnes in November and one million tonnes thereafter, with additional shipments also envisaged.
The arrangement includes temporary relief from US restrictions affecting Russian diesel imports.
Trump said the fuel arrangement was intended to help bring down energy prices, which have risen amid disruptions associated with the war involving Iran and the wider regional crisis.
The two developments highlight Moscow’s parallel diplomatic and energy engagement with Washington as the conflict continues.
However, Putin’s transmission of Iran’s position does not in itself indicate that an agreement has been reached, and the prospects for ending the war will depend on the positions taken by the parties and the progress of further negotiations.
