Garowe (Kaab TV) – The President of Puntland, Said Abdullahi Deni, has stated that Somalia is currently facing an extremely complex and dangerous political phase that poses a direct threat to the very existence of the Somali state. He warned that this situation has also generated widespread mistrust toward the federal system.
President Deni explained that the country is experiencing an increasing level of political fragmentation, which he attributed to what he described as poor and misguided policies by the Federal Government of Somalia.
According to him, these policies have undermined the cooperative framework and consensus-based system that was originally agreed upon during the formation of the federal structure.
“Unity cannot be achieved through insults, threats, and verbal abuse. That is not genuine unity,” the president said, emphasizing that Somalis are one people, regardless of where they live.
He stressed that any attempt to amend or dismantle the constitution that was founded on national consensus directly harms Somalia’s unity. He added that anyone who violates or disregards the constitution is not working toward true national unity.
President Deni underlined that constructive dialogue based on mutual respect is essential and that contentious national issues must be resolved through collective agreement.
The President of Puntland officially announced that Puntland has withdrawn from the current federal system, citing repeated violations of the constitution—an agreement in which Puntland played a major and foundational role.
“The current government in Mogadishu does not govern in accordance with the law or the agreements upon which the federal system was established. This does not mean that we reject the Somali people or the unity of the country; rather, we reject a system that operates through division and conflict,” he said.
President Deni further clarified that Puntland remains open to participating in any legitimate and lawful national conference aimed at finding a comprehensive solution to Somalia’s political challenges.
He stated that Puntland is prepared to openly present its views and positions in such forums. However, he warned that if no genuine platform for dialogue is created, Puntland will take its own decisions based on constitutional principles and the rule of law.
He concluded by emphasizing that all actions taken by Puntland will be legal, rational, and free from emotion or political impulse, and that their sole purpose is to protect the rights, dignity, and future of the people of Puntland.
