Puntland Remains Silent on Laftagareen’s Re-Election

Mogadishu(Kaab TV) – Puntland refrained from commenting on the election held yesterday in the city of Baidoa, where Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed “Laftagareen” was re-elected as President of the South West State.

The Future Council was divided over Laftagareen’s re-election. Those who supported it included Sheikh Sharif, Saacid, Kheyre, Abdirahman Abdishakur, and Ahmed Madobe. Meanwhile, Saeed Deni, Rooble, Cosoble, Koofi, and Arab remained silent on the matter. Mohamed Adan Fargeeti, a presidential candidate for South West State, officially condemned the election.

Recently, Abdinuur Mohamed, who previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff in the Presidency under former President Farmaajo, stated that Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni had lobbied for Mohamed Adan Fargeeti, the former Federal Minister of Finance, to join the Future Council of Somalia. Deni also called for South West State to hold an election.

During the political tensions involving Deni in 2024, Laftagareen had urged the Puntland President to return to the National Consultative Council, which Puntland had officially withdrawn from at the end of 2022.
