Puntland Lawmakers Express Support for Meeting Between Hassan Sheikh and Bari Traditional Leaders
Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – Members of the Puntland Parliament have expressed support for a meeting held in Mogadishu between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and several traditional elders from the Bari region. The meeting reportedly focused on addressing the needs of the region and strengthening cooperation between local communities and the Federal Government.
MP Abdirisaaq Sheikh Aduun and MP Farah Harun, who represent the Bari region in the House of Representatives, endorsed the meeting, stating that they stand behind any decisions reached by both parties.
In a joint press statement, the two MPs said: “We fully support the political efforts and consultative dialogue based on mutual understanding, led by traditional elders and the country’s top leadership.”
They added: “Having carefully assessed the political situation in Puntland, we believe that traditional elders are the backbone of state-building and play a vital role in resolving conflicts and preserving social unity.”
The meeting between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and some elders from Bari has sparked widespread debate, with some critics arguing that it could undermine Puntland’s unity.
