The Puntland Ministry of Health has issued a public health alert over the Ebola virus, saying it is closely monitoring the situation in the region while stressing that no Ebola cases have so far been confirmed in Puntland.
In a statement dated October 6, 2026, the ministry said Kenya has confirmed its first Ebola case involving a person who had traveled from the Democratic Republic of Congo through Uganda.
The patient reportedly died in Nairobi, prompting heightened health surveillance and preparedness measures in the region.
The Puntland Ministry of Health urged residents to immediately seek medical attention if they develop symptoms associated with Ebola, including fever, unusual fatigue, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhea or bleeding.
The ministry said it is strengthening preparedness measures, early detection and rapid-response mechanisms to prevent and respond to any potential spread of the disease. It also called on the public to follow health guidance and cooperate with health authorities.
Puntland authorities further urged people to avoid unnecessary travel to areas affected by Ebola and to inform health officials about suspected cases or individuals showing symptoms.
The ministry said it will continue monitoring developments and coordinating with relevant health authorities to strengthen surveillance and response measures.
