GAROWE (Kaab TV) – The Puntland Minister of Interior, Abdi Farah Said, has successfully brokered a ceasefire between two rival clan militias in Xarfo town, Mudug, following deadly clashes on Sunday, the Ministry of Interior announced.
The fighting, triggered by disputes over grazing land and water resources, left several people dead and resulted in one militia torching the village’s only water well, cutting off access to water for the entire community.
Minister Abdi Farah, accompanied by a delegation from Garowe, arrived in Xarfo and immediately intervened.
According to a statement from the ministry, minister Abdi Farah Said thanked all sides, including elders who participated in the ceasefire efforts, and urged both clans to strengthen the peace process.
“The minister called on elders and intellectuals on both sides to formalize the ceasefire, disengage their forces, and hold talks to achieve lasting peace,” the ministry’s statement read.
The minister’s team has initiated efforts to establish a committee of elders and religious leaders to mediate between the warring groups and prevent further violence.
