Bosaso (KAAB TV) – Puntland defense forces have launched a major offensive against the Daesh (ISIS) militants entrenched in the Al-Miskad mountains, as the group has recently attempted to expand its foothold in the Bari region.
The operation, now several days underway, is focused on rugged mountainous terrain where the militants have long maintained strongholds. Puntland security forces have reportedly captured several key areas previously used as hideouts by the ISIS fighters.
According to security officials, Ahmed Musa Saeed—a senior ISIS operative responsible for facilitating the movement of foreign fighters into Somalia—was killed during the operation.
Abdifatah Abdinur, the State Minister in the Puntland Presidency, confirmed that the offensive is ongoing and is targeting remote areas where Daesh remnants are believed to be hiding.
“The Puntland defense forces have successfully cleared ISIS from key areas. The operation will continue until all their mountain camps are completely destroyed,” said Minister Abdifatah.
Puntland has maintained a persistent campaign against the Daesh group, achieving significant victories in past engagements. Authorities say the current operation is part of a broader strategy to eliminate the group and ensure lasting security in the region.
