Puntland security forces reportedly intercepted two vehicles carrying members of Somalia’s Federal Government security forces on the southern outskirts of Galkayo on Monday morning.

According to local reports, the troops were traveling from the direction of Galmudug and were allegedly en route to the Xananbuure military training center in the Galgaduud region.

Sources indicate that the soldiers may have mistakenly strayed from their intended route during the journey and entered an area south of Galkayo controlled by Puntland forces, leading to their detention.

The two vehicles were reportedly carrying around 50 personnel each, bringing the estimated number of detained troops to nearly 100.
