Garowe (KAAB TV) – Reports have emerged confirming that the Puntland government has acquired fighter jets intended for intelligence gathering and airstrikes against terrorist groups operating in the Bari region’s mountainous areas.
Officials within the Puntland administration have verified that under President Said Abdullahi Deni’s leadership, warplanes have been purchased to support ongoing military operations, particularly in the Calmikaad mountains. These aircraft are expected to play a central role in the campaign against militant groups hiding in the region.
According to the reports, Puntland has acquired four military aircraft, though the purchases have not been officially announced to the public. Two of these planes have already landed in Bosaso and are slated for deployment in the Calmikaad operation.
Puntland security forces have undergone specialized training to operate these warplanes, which are expected to enhance the region’s military capability. The jets will provide air support for infantry units and conduct targeted airstrikes against terrorist positions.
Additionally, both the United States and the United Arab Emirates have provided significant support to Puntland’s counterterrorism efforts. Warplanes from these allied nations have already carried out several airstrikes targeting Daesh positions in the Calmikaad mountains, where the extremist group is believed to be entrenched.
