Puntland Accuses Federal Government of the Return of Piracy

Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – Puntland has accused the Federal Government of Somalia, led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, of being involved in the resurgence of piracy in its regions.

Puntland’s Deputy Minister of Information, Bile Mahmoud Qabowsade, stated in a post on his Facebook page that “the outgoing president, Hassan Sheikh, and his group are working to strengthen acts of terrorism and piracy, creating insecurity within the Federal Member States.”

He emphasized that Puntland is actively combating any attempts to carry out piracy within the areas under its administration.

Bile Qabowsade also accused the Federal Government of misusing international resources that were intended to support Somalia’s fight against terrorism.

“The Federal Government has diverted international funds meant for counterterrorism toward undermining the Federal Member States, which have been gradually rebuilding over a long period. This poses a serious threat to Somalia’s statehood and the overall security of the region,” he said.
