Prominent MP leads local forces to drive out Al-Shabaab and ensure security for communities

JOWHAR (KAAB TV) – MP Dahir Amin Jeesow, a prominent member of the Somali Parliament, is at the forefront of a powerful local force comprised of the Galjecel community, engaged in a determined effort to rid the largest land that comprises three regions of Hiiraan, Middle Shabelle, and Lower Shabelle of Al-Shabaab militants.

Thanks to their efforts, security has been established, allowing for discussions with local people, including herdsmen, farmers, and traders, on measures to safeguard their communities and prevent terrorist attacks.

As announced on Sunday, the primary objective of the operation in the three regions is threefold: to secure the area, engage in meaningful consultations with local residents, and thwart the activities of terrorist groups that have been causing hardships for those living in Hiiraan, Middle Shabelle, and Lower Shabelle.

“We have succeeded in opening up all the vital roads connecting these three regions. Today, I can confidently say that from Jowhar in Middle Shabelle to Beledweyne in Hiiraan, and all the way to Yaaq-Biri Weyne in Lower Shabelle, the roads are open, and the people are free,” declared MP Jeesow.

He emphasized that the time has come to address the immediate needs of the local population, including the delivery of humanitarian aid, essential services, and the establishment of elected administrations and police forces to maintain peace and security.

“The communities in these regions have suffered under Al-Shabaab, and that is why they took up arms to fight for their liberation. Now, it is crucial for the government and international partners to provide adequate support so that these communities can remain safe and free from extremist groups,” he further stated.

The local forces, actively conducting operations since May, have made significant strides in clearing vast areas from Al-Shabaab through intense battles.

Both clan elders and local fighters are calling for the collaboration of all sides to ensure public access to basic services such as healthcare, education, and business, which had been disrupted by the presence of the militant group.
