Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamse Abdi Barre, has strongly reaffirmed his commitment to the unity and territorial integrity of Somalia, addressing recent accusations that he supports the division of the Somali nation.
Speaking during a press conference in Mogadishu, Prime Minister Hamse directly addressed concerns regarding the status of Somaliland and the increasing calls for its independence. He emphasized that certain individuals, while not publicly vocal, are quietly working behind the scenes to promote separatist agendas.
“There are those who remain silent in public but are actively campaigning for secession behind closed doors,” he said, alluding to both local and international actors advocating for the recognition of Somaliland as an independent state.
The Prime Minister expressed particular concern over members of the UK Parliament who have been outspoken in their support for Somaliland’s independence. He called on the global Somali diaspora to reject such efforts and stand in solidarity with the Somali federal government’s position on national unity.
“It is deeply troubling that members of the Somali diaspora have not raised their voices in protest against the efforts of UK parliamentarians advocating for separation,” Prime Minister Hamse stated. “Unity is a national duty that belongs to every Somali, both at home and abroad.”
In his concluding remarks, the Prime Minister urged all Somalis to distance themselves from tribalism and conflict-driven rhetoric. He warned that internal divisions only serve to weaken the country and hinder progress toward lasting peace and development.
“Somalia’s future depends on our ability to overcome tribal divisions and unite as one people, with one vision,” he said.
Prime Minister Hamse’s comments come at a time of renewed tension over the status of Somaliland, which declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but has yet to gain international recognition. The federal government continues to assert that Somalia remains one, indivisible nation.
