Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – Talks between leaders of the Federal Government and the Future Council have entered their second day without progress, as no discussions have taken place since Thursday, when the initial meeting was held at Villa Somalia.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is reported to have declined a request to meet exclusively with the delegation appointed by the Future Council for negotiations. The council’s representatives had sought direct talks solely with the president.
For his part, President Hassan Sheikh prefers that other members of the government participate in the discussions with the council’s delegation, or that the meeting be held in a broader format similar to Thursday’s session.
On Thursday, the Future Council selected a team to engage President Hassan Sheikh on electoral matters. The delegation includes Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni, former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire, Member of Parliament Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, and the Council’s Secretary, MP Abdullahi Arab.
The Future Council is expected to hold an internal meeting today to discuss the situation, and it may issue a press statement afterward.
