New York (KAAB TV) – Kenyan President William Ruto has arrived in New York to participate in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where he is expected to address critical issues concerning peace, security, and regional stability, particularly in Eastern Africa and the Caribbean.

President Ruto’s agenda includes high-level discussions focused on the role of Kenya and its contributions to global peacekeeping efforts.

He is anticipated to highlight the complex challenges facing neighboring countries, including Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as the ongoing crisis in Haiti.

Among the key points of his address will be Kenya’s efforts to support international peacekeeping missions, especially in Somalia and Haiti—two countries grappling with prolonged instability.

Kenya has recently pledged to send police forces to Haiti as part of a UN-backed multinational security mission aimed at restoring law and order in the gang-plagued nation.

Similarly, Kenya has long maintained a military presence in Somalia under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), aimed at combating terrorist threats and supporting the Somali government.

Sources close to the delegation indicate that President Ruto will seek broader international support—both logistical and financial—for Kenya’s peacekeeping missions.

There are also suggestions that Kenya may be willing to expand its role in other conflict zones, depending on regional and international consensus.

Kenyan Presidential Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed confirmed the President’s focus ahead of his speech, stating:

“President William Ruto is committed to engaging with key global issues during the 80th United Nations General Assembly. He will emphasize the importance of collective action on peace and security, with particular attention to the ongoing crises in Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, and Haiti.”

President Ruto’s participation at the UNGA comes at a time when Kenya is increasingly being recognized as a regional power broker and a reliable contributor to peacekeeping initiatives across Africa and beyond.

His engagements in New York are expected to include bilateral meetings with global leaders, development partners, and UN officials, further reinforcing Kenya’s diplomatic presence on the world stage.
