Algeria (KAAB TV) – During an official visit to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, engaged in high-level talks and toured key industrial and educational facilities in Algiers on 11–12 November 2025.
On his arrival in Algiers, President Mohamud was officially welcomed by Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of Algeria, with a formal ceremony at the Presidency followed by bilateral discussions.
As part of the delegation’s programme, President Mohamud visited a major Algerian pharmaceutical manufacturing facility and a national artificial-intelligence centre involved in social-services development and production. These visits underscore Somalia’s interest in replicating or drawing lessons from Algeria’s industrial and digital-services capacities.
He also visited the Great Mosque of Algiers, where he met with Algerian scholars. The discussions reflected the shared historical ties between Somalia and Algeria through Islamic scholarship and cultural solidarity, and affirmed Algerian support for the Somali people.
The visit culminated in the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation agreements between Somalia and Algeria covering education, agriculture, energy, livestock, fisheries, oil, gas and mining, as well as visa facilitation for diplomatic passport holders.
Algeria committed to hosting Somali students under a scholarship programme: 110 Somali students will begin study in Algeria in the academic year 2026-2027, with plans to expand into vocational, security and defence training.
A Joint Ministerial Commission will be established to monitor implementation of the agreements and identify additional areas of cooperation.
Both governments affirmed their intention to strengthen diplomatic, economic and security cooperation, consistent with African and Arab solidarity, and aligned on regional issues including sovereignty and development.
The visit reflects a strategic step by Somalia to deepen south-south partnerships and by Algeria to re-engage with African nations beyond its immediate region. President Tebboune described the visit as “the second of its kind” and a demonstration of mutual desire to reinforce bilateral relations.
