Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud inspected the Immigration and Citizenship Agency in Mogadishu to review modernization efforts and reforms enhancing national security and citizen services.
President Hassan Sheikh received a detailed briefing from the Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, and the Director-General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency, Mustafe Sheikh Ali Dhuxulow.
The two officials presented an overview of the agency’s achievements in digital transformation, decentralization of services, and the introduction of modern border management systems designed to ensure greater efficiency, transparency, and accountability.
In his address to the agency’s leadership and staff, President Mohamud underscored the critical role the ICA plays in protecting Somalia’s borders, regulating migration, and safeguarding national sovereignty.
He stressed the importance of upholding the rule of law, maintaining transparency in all immigration processes, and intensifying efforts to combat human trafficking, terrorism, and illegal migration networks that threaten national stability.
“The Immigration and Citizenship Agency is the frontline of Somalia’s security architecture,” President Mohamud stated. “The safety and integrity of our borders depend on your commitment to professionalism, accuracy in data verification, and service to the Somali people.”
President Hassan Sheikh commended the agency’s accomplishments, particularly the successful rollout of the e-Visa system, a modern digital platform that has simplified visa applications and entry procedures for foreign visitors.
He also highlighted the adoption of PISCES — an advanced biometric system that uses fingerprints and facial recognition to verify identities and track movements at entry points, greatly improving national security and border control efficiency.
The President concluded his visit by reaffirming his administration’s continued support for the ICA’s modernization agenda, noting that a strong and technologically advanced immigration system is essential to Somalia’s broader efforts to ensure security, facilitate lawful mobility, and promote global cooperation.
