President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Embarks on Official Visit to Algeria to Bolster Bilateral Relations

Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has departed from Mogadishu on an official state visit to Algiers, the capital city of Algeria, following an invitation extended by his Algerian counterpart, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The visit aims to strengthen diplomatic, economic, and security cooperation between the two nations, as part of Somalia’s broader efforts to enhance partnerships across Africa and the Arab world. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s trip comes at a time when Somalia is working to expand its international alliances, promote economic development, and consolidate national security gains.

Accompanying the Somali Head of State is a high-level delegation comprising key members of the Council of Ministers, including: The Minister of Defence,The Minister of Mines and Petroleum, The Minister of Livestock, Forestry, and Range, and The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalan Omar Hadliye (Dhay).

During his stay in Algiers, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his delegation are scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings with President Tebboune, senior Algerian government officials, and representatives of major institutions.

These discussions are expected to focus on mutual cooperation in the following key areas:

Enhancing joint efforts in combating extremism and promoting regional stability.

Exploring investment opportunities and trade partnerships, particularly in energy, infrastructure, and agriculture.

Expanding cooperation in higher education, scholarships, and cultural diplomacy.

Strengthening ties within continental and international organizations such as the African Union (AU) and the Arab League.

Somalia and Algeria share a long history of solidarity dating back to Somalia’s early post-independence era.

Algeria has historically supported Somalia in various diplomatic and security initiatives across Africa and the Arab region.

This visit is viewed as a significant step in revitalizing relations between Mogadishu and Algiers, with both governments expected to sign memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to formalize new areas of cooperation.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s ongoing diplomatic outreach underscores his administration’s commitment to rebuilding Somalia’s international standing and fostering partnerships that contribute to peace, stability, and economic growth.
