Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has officially invited the leaders of Somalia’s regional states to attend a National Consultation Forum aimed at addressing the country’s overall situation.
According to a statement from Villa Somalia, the Presidential Office, the invitation follows the President’s call for national unity and dialogue made on March 31, 2025. The forum is scheduled to take place from May 1st to May 2nd, and is considered a vital step toward strengthening national cohesion, advancing the fight against terrorism, and completing the country’s stabilization efforts.
President Hassan Sheikh is also expected to engage with Somali intellectuals and representatives from various sectors of society during the forum.
The Federal Government emphasized its continued commitment to inclusive consultation, cooperation, and joint efforts focused on key national priorities: liberating territories still under terrorist control, completing state-building processes, and driving national development.
However, it remains unclear whether the Presidents of Jubaland and Puntland—two regions currently at odds with the Federal Government—will participate, as their political disputes with Mogadishu remain unresolved.
The President’s outreach to opposition figures was not explicitly mentioned in the statement, although his plan to consult with intellectuals and civil society members is seen as an effort to broaden national dialogue beyond government circles.
