MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – Officers from the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) have been accused of committing abuses against residents of Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, causing hardship for many people.
One of the people affected by NISA forces said:
“I am a father who sells small items on the streets of Mogadishu to support my young children. Sometimes, even when I have nothing illegal and am simply working to earn our daily living, the security officers detain me for a period of time. During that time, my children are left with nothing to eat. This is the kind of hardship people in Mogadishu face.”
He added that the NISA forces seem to act without fear of accountability, and it appears as though those responsible for misconduct are known by the authorities but nothing is done about it.
Reports indicate that intimidation of Mogadishu residents has increased significantly in recent months, as some NISA officers have allegedly begun extorting money from the public.
Many people fear that if the situation in Mogadishu continues this way, a large number of residents may be forced to flee the city.
