Middle Shabelle (Kaab TV) – The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has announced that it carried out a planned security operation last night in the Qaahira area of the Middle Shabelle region.
In a press statement, NISA said the operation was conducted in cooperation with international partners and resulted in the killing of seven Al-Shabaab members. The agency also stated that weapons storage sites and safe houses used by Al-Shabaab fighters were destroyed during the operation.
According to NISA, the operation followed similar missions carried out days earlier in the Maxaa Saciid area of the same region, where senior Al-Shabaab leaders were targeted. The agency reported that the leaders were struck while meeting at a house in the area.
NISA confirmed that five senior Al-Shabaab commanders were killed in that attack, while three others sustained serious injuries.
The agency urged civilians living in areas under Al-Shabaab control to stay away from locations where the group is present, stressing that such sites are constant targets of the National Armed Forces.
Last year, Al-Shabaab seized large areas of the Middle Shabelle region. The loss of those territories represented a major setback to the Somali government’s earlier gains in its fight against the group.
