The head of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) in Feer-Feer district was killed in an explosion that struck the Huday Wegle area of Hiiraan region, according to local reports.

Sources said the blast also wounded several other individuals, including district officials and security personnel who were reportedly traveling through or present in the area when the attack occurred.

Preliminary reports suggest the explosion may have been carried out by Al-Shabaab, although authorities have not yet released an official statement confirming the circumstances of the attack or those responsible.

Following the incident, security forces launched operations in and around Huday Wegle, a locality situated near the strategic border district of Feer-Feer.

The area has been the focus of ongoing security efforts as government forces and local fighters continue operations against Al-Shabaab militants.

The killing of the district’s NISA commander comes at a time when Somali security forces are intensifying efforts to secure parts of Hiiraan region and prevent militant attacks along key transport routes and population centers.

The attack is expected to raise fresh concerns over security in the region, particularly regarding the safety of government officials and security personnel operating in areas where Al-Shabaab remains capable of carrying out bombings and other asymmetric attacks.
