Mogadishu (KAAB TV) — A series of mortar shells were recently launched toward the Somali Presidential Palace, Villa Somalia, with several landing in nearby areas. Reports indicate that these attacks resulted in multiple casualties.
Some of the mortars struck the districts of Hamarweyne, Hamarjajab, and Shibis, injuring several civilians and causing widespread panic among residents.
While it remains unclear whether any of the mortars directly hit the presidential compound, the blasts were heard across many parts of Mogadishu, spreading fear throughout the capital.
The militant group Al-Shabaab has frequently targeted key government sites, including the Presidential Palace and Aden Adde International Airport. These continued attacks have caused significant civilian harm, often affecting people in or near their homes.
A few weeks ago, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was also targeted in a mortar attack while in the city. Following that incident, he issued stern warnings to military officials and district administrators in areas where mortars were launched. However, it remains uncertain what actions the President will take in response to this latest assault.
