Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – Early Monday morning, eight mortar shells struck the perimeter of Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, triggering widespread alarm in the surrounding area.
The attack occurred in the early hours of the day, with eyewitnesses reporting loud explosions that shook nearby buildings. Screams were heard near the stadium area shortly after the mortars hit. Preliminary reports indicate that the shells landed outside the airport’s main entrance, causing panic but no immediate confirmation of casualties or significant damage.
As of this morning, Somali security officials have not issued an official statement regarding the extent of the damage. Emergency response teams were deployed to the site, and security forces have since cordoned off parts of the surrounding area as a safety precaution.
Aden Adde International Airport is a vital hub in Somalia’s capital, serving humanitarian organizations, diplomatic missions, and civilian travelers. Due to its strategic importance, the airport is heavily secured.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. However, similar incidents in Mogadishu have frequently been linked to the militant group Al-Shabaab, which continues its long-standing conflict with the Somali federal government.
Authorities are expected to provide further details as the investigation progresses.
