Mogadishu Mayor Lays Foundation for 18 New Medical Centers to Strengthen Community Healthcare

Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The Chairman of the Banadir Regional Administration and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Mungab), officially launched a major health-sector development project on Saturday, marking a significant investment in the city’s public healthcare system.

During a ceremony held at the Mother and Child Health (MCH) Center in Waberi District, the Mayor laid the foundation stone for the renovation and construction of 18 modern medical facilities, each set to be equipped with comprehensive medical equipment.

The event was attended by health professionals, community leaders, and district representatives, all gathered to witness the beginning of a project designed to transform healthcare delivery for Mogadishu’s growing population.

According to project details, the initiative will include the construction and rehabilitation of 4 major hospitals and 14 MCH clinics across 11 districts of Mogadishu.

These facilities will focus particularly on maternal and child health services, ensuring that mothers, infants, and young children have reliable access to essential and high-quality care.

The expansion aims to strengthen the city’s healthcare infrastructure and reduce the pressure on existing public hospitals.

In his speech, Mayor Mungab highlighted the government’s commitment to providing free medical services at all the new centers.

He emphasized that this initiative is designed to support vulnerable families and reduce dependence on expensive private clinics, ensuring that no resident is denied care due to financial constraints.

“This project represents our dedication to building a healthier, more equitable Mogadishu,” Mayor Mungab stated. “Every mother, every child, and every citizen deserves access to quality healthcare without facing hardship or discrimination.”

The new medical centers are expected to significantly improve healthcare accessibility and play a vital role in promoting community well-being throughout the Banadir Region.
