MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – A desperate situation is unfolding in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, as residents report that government security forces have begun removing the doors of homes because of unpaid taxes.
Videos circulating on social media show houses with their doors taken off, causing major hardship for the families living there.
One woman whose house door was removed said: “They took our doors, and it has caused us great distress. We used to think of the government as something that would bring security, but now the government is coming to take the doors off our homes, abandoning us. Have you ever seen entire families living together in a house from which the doors were removed and taken away? This is what we are facing.”
An elderly resident whose home was also affected said: “I’m just an ordinary citizen living in the Shibis neighborhood. I work as a motorcycle driver. While I was away at work, officials came to my house and forcibly removed the door. My children were left standing outside like this,” he explained.
Business owners in the Benadir region are also complaining about additional taxes that they say have been imposed on them, leading to the closure of several business centers in parts of Bakara Market and Xamar Weyne Market.
Residents of Mogadishu continue to face numerous challenges related to the government’s methods of tax collection.
