Mayor of Mogadishu Inaugurates Reconstructed Soobe Road to Ease Traffic and Boost Infrastructure

|

MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) — The Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of the Banadir Region, Mr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein Muungaab, officially inaugurated the newly reconstructed Soobe Road today. The road, which serves as a vital link between the Hodan and Wadajir districts, had suffered extensive damage due to recent heavy rainfall in the Somali capital.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by district officials, engineers, community members, and the governors of both Hodan and Wadajir districts.

The project marks a significant step forward in Mogadishu’s broader urban renewal and infrastructure development plan.

A Modern and Sustainable Redesign

In his speech, Mayor Muungaab emphasized that the redevelopment of Soobe Road was guided by modern engineering principles and designed with long-term sustainability in mind.

The project includes an upgraded drainage system that channels rainwater directly into the sea, aiming to prevent future flood-related damage.

The reconstruction included the installation of underground electricity lines and water pipelines, laying the foundation for further urban utility upgrades.

“The road we are opening today follows a modern design that prioritizes proper drainage, safety, and long-term durability. Electric cables and water infrastructure have also been installed, which reflects our commitment to building resilient and sustainable public works,” said Mayor Hassan Muungaab during the event.

Improved Connectivity and Reduced Congestion

Soobe Road is one of the primary arteries connecting the bustling districts of Hodan and Wadajir. In recent years, the road’s deteriorating condition has caused serious traffic bottlenecks, affecting both residents and local businesses.

The reconstruction is expected to significantly improve mobility, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance the overall quality of life for commuters in the area.

Local residents expressed optimism about the new road, hoping that the improved infrastructure will lead to better transportation options and faster travel times across the city.

Part of a Broader Infrastructure Development Plan

This project is just one of several major road reconstruction efforts currently underway in Mogadishu.

Heavy rains in recent months have damaged key transport routes throughout the city, prompting the municipal government to accelerate repair and development plans. While some projects have already been completed, others remain ongoing.

The Hamar municipal government has pledged to continue investing in infrastructure, aiming to restore and modernize the capital’s road network to meet the growing demands of its population.

Mayor Muungaab concluded the ceremony by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to building a modern, resilient, and inclusive Mogadishu.
