Mass Kidnapping Reported in Middle Shabelle as Tensions Rise in Central Somalia

|

JOWHAR (KAAB TV) – In a troubling development in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region, approximately 130 people traveling in seven vehicles were kidnapped while en route from Mogadishu to Galkayo, in the Mudug region. The abduction took place in villages near the Wargaadhi area.

The victims include elderly individuals, women, and children. Reports indicate that they have been held captive for at least two days, with the kidnapping reportedly occurring around 4:00 PM. The passengers have been cut off from any supplies since their abduction.

This incident appears to be part of a larger wave of lawlessness affecting the region. It follows another hijacking in the Matabaan district of the Hiran region, where a man named Ali Sooc reportedly seized a commercial vehicle connected to the Middle Shabelle area. He is also accused of abducting the vehicle’s occupants.

Ali Sooc has alleged that widespread looting and theft have occurred across Middle Shabelle, suggesting that his actions may be part of a broader conflict or response to regional grievances.

Authorities have yet to confirm the status of the hostages or whether any negotiations or rescue efforts are underway.
