Galgaduud (KAAB TV) — Local militia forces known as the Maawisley have conducted a large-scale security operation in central Somalia’s Galgaduud region, targeting Al-Shabaab strongholds in and around the Amara and Bahdo districts.
The operation was focused on disrupting and dismantling key Al-Shabaab hideouts and logistical centers. According to local officials, at least 11 militants were confirmed killed during the offensive.
Speaking to the media, Ahmed Salad Sheikh, the Deputy Governor of Bahdo district, emphasized that the operation was pre-planned and is part of an ongoing campaign to neutralize the extremist group in the region.
“The local forces have targeted Al-Shabaab groups hiding in areas under Amara and nearby locations. So far, we can confirm the deaths of 11 members of the group,” said Ahmed Salad.
While the operation has reportedly inflicted further losses on both sides, officials have not yet disclosed the exact number of additional casualties or injuries. Sources suggest that the fighting remains active in some areas, as security forces continue their efforts to root out remaining militants.
The Galgaduud region, particularly its rural and remote districts, remains a contested zone where Al-Shabaab maintains a presence and influence. The group continues to pose a serious threat to regional stability and civilian safety.
In response, both local Maawisley militias and Somali government forces have stepped up coordinated offensives in central Somalia, aiming to weaken the group’s operational capacity and restore security to affected communities.
Such operations are part of a broader national campaign to combat insurgency and liberate territories under militant control. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to sustaining pressure on Al-Shabaab until the region is fully secured.
