Kenyan Security Forces Intensify Operations Against Al-Shabaab Along Somalia Border

Nairobi (KAAB TV) – Kenyan security forces have intensified counterterrorism operations along the Kenya–Somalia border, targeting suspected members of the militant group Al-Shabaab.

The operations, which have been ongoing for several hours, aim to dismantle the group’s presence and prevent infiltration into Kenyan territory.

According to security sources, the joint operation involves units from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the General Service Unit (GSU), both of which are focusing on areas in Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa counties—regions that have historically faced cross-border incursions by the Somali-based militant group.

An informed security source told Kaab TV that local residents in several border villages had recently reported sightings of unfamiliar individuals crossing into Kenyan territory from Somalia.

These reports prompted swift action from the Kenyan military and police forces, who have launched coordinated patrols and aerial surveillance missions along the border.

“Residents have been instrumental in sharing information about suspicious movements near the border,” said a senior security officer who spoke on condition of anonymity. “Our goal is to ensure that no terrorist elements find safe passage into Kenya.”

Officials from Kenya’s security agencies have warned that Al-Shabaab typically escalates attacks during the final months of the year, particularly targeting security installations, government offices, and public transport routes in North-Eastern Kenya.

This pattern has prompted a heightened state of alert among both the military and local administrators.

The intensified operations come amid growing concern over a series of recent attacks and ambushes that have resulted in significant casualties and damage to infrastructure.

In some instances, Al-Shabaab militants have targeted road construction crews, telecommunications towers, and vehicles traveling along remote routes near the border.

Kenyan authorities maintain that their continued vigilance and proactive security measures are essential to safeguarding national security and preventing extremist activities from destabilizing the region.

The Kenyan government, in cooperation with Somali authorities and international partners, has reaffirmed its commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring lasting peace in the Horn of Africa.
