Kenya Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Cooperation Amid Somaliland President’s Visit to Nairobi

|

Nairobi (KAAB TV) – Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement on Monday reaffirming its commitment to continued cooperation with both Jubbaland and Somaliland, emphasizing that such engagement is conducted in consultation with the Federal Government of Somalia.

The statement underscored Kenya’s respect for Somalia’s political independence, national unity, and territorial integrity, in line with international law and regional agreements to which Somalia is a signatory.

The announcement coincided with the arrival of Somaliland’s newly elected president, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), in Nairobi. His visit follows an official invitation from the Kenyan government.

According to the Somaliland Presidency, President Irro is scheduled to meet with senior Kenyan officials, including President William Ruto, to discuss matters of strategic importance to Somaliland. Additionally, President Irro will inaugurate a newly constructed modern building designated as the Somaliland Embassy in Kenya.

Kenya had earlier hosted the President of Jubbaland, Ahmed Mohamed Islam (also known as Ahmed Madobe), a move that angered the Federal Government of Somalia, which considers Ahmed Madobe a convicted criminal.

While Mogadishu has not issued an official statement on President Irro’s visit, diplomatic sources confirmed to HOL that the Somali government is deeply displeased by the trip and the growing ties between Kenya and Somaliland.
