Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The Capital FM newspaper in Kenya has reported that the Kenyan government has officially established an investigative team to examine a series of plane crashes involving Kenyan aircraft in South Sudan and Somalia over the past five years.
The decision follows the death of a Kenyan pilot whose aircraft was shot down in the Darfur region of Sudan, sparking renewed concerns over the safety of Kenyan aviation operations in conflict zones.
According to a press release issued on Friday, a seven-member task force—led by pilots Captain Peter Maranga and Frederick Kabong from the Ministry of Transport—has been assigned to review the initial accident reports involving Kenyan-registered aircraft operating in South Sudan and Somalia.
The team’s responsibilities include conducting interviews with relevant authorities, analyzing available data, and verifying the accuracy of existing reports on the incidents.
Kenya’s Minister of Defense confirmed that the investigation team has a three-month mandate. Upon completion, they will submit a comprehensive report to the Cabinet Secretary, outlining their findings and recommendations aimed at improving aviation safety and addressing any systemic concerns in the sector.
