Journalists Detained in Mogadishu Following Mortar Attack on Halane Camp

|

Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – Police in Mogadishu’s Wadajir district have detained several journalists working for Risala Media Group and MMTV. The arrests took place earlier today while the reporters were working in the area, shortly after a mortar attack targeted the Halane camp, a heavily guarded area housing international personnel.

The journalists detained have been identified as Abdirashid Adow Ibrahim (Kamiraman) and Abukar Mohamed Keenaan of Risala Media Group, along with Bashir Ali and Mahad Abdirsaaq of MMTV. According to initial reports, they are currently being held at the Wadajir district police station. Authorities have not yet provided a clear reason for their detention.

The incident has sparked renewed concern over the state of press freedom in Somalia. Media rights organizations are calling on the Somali government to uphold legal protections for journalists and ensure that members of the press can carry out their duties without intimidation or interference, particularly when covering security-related events.
