Joint Somali and International Forces Strike Al-Shabaab Leaders in Targeted Aden Yabaal Operation

|

Aden Yabaal (KAAB TV) – More details are emerging about a high-impact joint operation conducted by the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in coordination with international allies, which targeted a strategic house in the Howlwadaag neighborhood of Aden Yabaal district, located in the Middle Shabelle region.

According to preliminary reports, the operation specifically targeted a location believed to be hosting a high-level meeting of Al-Shabaab leaders. Government sources indicated that the targeted house was under surveillance and identified as a critical node in the group’s local command structure.

A brief statement released by the Federal Government of Somalia confirmed the operation, noting that significant losses were inflicted on the militant leadership in attendance. While the statement did not disclose the number of casualties or the identities of those killed, it emphasized that the operation was successful in disrupting Al-Shabaab’s regional coordination efforts.

“During the operation, the house caught fire and a massive explosion shook the district, indicating that the site was being used to store large quantities of explosives and heavy weaponry,” read the government’s statement. The powerful detonation reportedly caused panic throughout the area, further underscoring the scale of the militants’ arsenal at the location.

Although the government has not released detailed information about the damage sustained by the militants or whether any individuals were captured, the timing of the strike appears to be part of a broader military strategy. Just a day prior, Somali National Army troops, backed by local communities, successfully reclaimed several key areas from Al-Shabaab control, including the Mosque of Ali Guduud and the village of Geelgub in the neighboring Central Shabelle region.

The recent string of military successes highlights the increased coordination between Somali security forces and international partners in their ongoing campaign to weaken Al-Shabaab’s operational capacity across southern and central Somalia. The government has vowed to continue its offensive until all areas under militant control are fully liberated and secured.

Further updates are expected as security forces continue to assess the aftermath of the Aden Yabaal operation and monitor any retaliatory movements by the extremist group.
