Rome (KAAB TV) – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni currently under judicial investigation following her government releasing a Libyan police officer who is a wanted individual by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The prisoner who is known by the name Osama Elmasri Njeem was released last week and flown on an Italian government plane just days after being released from prison in the northern Italian city of Turin on an ICC warrant.
Osama Elmasri Njeem is wanted and accused of crimes against humanity such as murder, torture and rape.
The ICC has demanded an explanation from the Italian Prime Minister, saying it was not consulted on the decision to release Njeem.
In a video message posted on social media on Tuesday, Meloni said she was investigating Rome’s attorney general, Francesco Lo Voi, after she was accused of contributing to a crime and misappropriation of public funds.
Meloni dismissed the allegations, saying she “will not be intimidated by this investigation”.
She said prosecutors were also investigating Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi and the Cabinet & Intelligence.
Italy detained Njem in Turin earlier this month, but the government suddenly released him two days later. He was taken on an official government plane and taken to Tripoli.
