Yemen (KAAB TV) – The Houthi group, which controls significant parts of Yemen, announced yesterday that it successfully shot down an American MQ-9 Reaper drone, a high-tech unmanned aerial vehicle used for both surveillance and military strikes.
In an official statement, the Houthis confirmed that the drone was brought down during ongoing tensions between the group and U.S. forces operating in the region.
The MQ-9 Reaper, valued at approximately $33 million, is among 20 similar drones the Houthis claim to have downed since the conflict escalated. If confirmed, the total estimated cost of the drones lost would be around $660 million—marking a substantial financial setback for the United States.
This latest incident comes at a time of intensified U.S. airstrikes targeting Houthi-controlled areas, which have reportedly caused significant civilian casualties.
