MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – Somalia’s Himilo Qaran Party has strongly denied accusations made by the Federal Government regarding weapons allegedly seized from residences and compounds occupied by opposition figures in Mogadishu.
The party’s secretary, Member of Parliament Yusuf Gamadiid, said the weapons displayed by the government had been collected from various locations belonging to government officials and other political figures, insisting that no weapons were confiscated from former President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed or from opposition premises.
“We consider it deeply unfortunate that instead of implementing the preliminary ceasefire agreement, accusations and weapons allegedly linked to the opposition were publicly displayed. We view this as an attempt to mislead the public,” MP Gamadiid said.
He accused the government of attempting to divert attention from the casualties and damage caused by the recent clashes in Mogadishu, arguing that the public was being misinformed through allegations connected to the displayed weapons.
“The greatest reality exposed by these events is that public grievances and political opposition cannot be silenced through force. In the end, the fighting was halted through dialogue and negotiations,” he added.
The Himilo Qaran secretary also accused the government of targeting locations where opposition politicians were staying, as well as sites where peaceful demonstrations were being organized. According to him, such actions risk further escalating the country’s political tensions.
MP Gamadiid called for an independent investigation into the recent incidents and the accusations exchanged between the two sides in order to establish the facts surrounding the dispute.
On the other hand, the Federal Government of Somalia on Saturday displayed weapons and military vehicles in Mogadishu that officials claimed had been recovered from the Mirinaayo residence where former President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed had been staying. Security agencies said the weapons had been seized during ongoing security operations in the capital.
