MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – Authorities in Mogadishu have implemented a widespread lockdown of several key roads and intersections across the city in response to a recent Al-Shabaab attack targeting the Jilacow Detention Center, commonly referred to as “Jilacow Cave.”
According to reliable sources, the closures began late last night and continued into the early morning, affecting both public and private transportation.
The security forces stationed at strategic points have halted the movement of vehicles, particularly those en route to sensitive areas, including the Port of Mogadishu. This move is part of a broader effort to stabilize the situation and prevent further threats in the wake of the militant attack.
The attack on the high-security Jilacow facility yesterday afternoon caused alarm among both civilians and officials, prompting an immediate and forceful response from the government.
In an effort to prevent follow-up attacks and maintain order, Somali security forces have significantly increased their presence throughout the capital. Heavily armed personnel, in coordination with traffic police and intelligence officers, are now monitoring key roads and intersections, conducting random inspections, and enforcing movement restrictions.

However, the current closures appear more extensive, with several normally monitored intersections now under full lockdown.
Surveillance infrastructure in the city remains limited, with only a few areas covered by closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, placing a greater burden on ground forces to maintain security.
The Somali government has not yet issued an official statement regarding the duration of these closures, but local authorities urge residents to remain calm, avoid unnecessary travel, and cooperate fully with law enforcement.
The public has also been advised to report any suspicious activities as security operations continue city-wide.
