Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Mohamed Ahmed Amir, announced that emergency aid is being delivered to residents affected by the heavy rainfall that battered the city for several hours.
The intense rain, which began last night, caused widespread damage, including the collapse of several newly constructed roads. In response, Mayor Amir has ordered the construction companies responsible for those roads to rebuild them with higher quality standards.
Governor Amir stated that his administration will soon release a comprehensive report detailing the impact of the storm and the emergency measures being taken.
“Due to the heavy rainfall in Hamar and surrounding areas, we have taken all possible actions to address the crisis. A report on the damage caused will be issued shortly, and immediate assistance will be provided to those affected by the flooding,” said Governor Amir.
He added that the local government is actively working to mitigate the effects of the storm. Water pumps and storage tanks have been deployed to remove stagnant water from the most heavily affected neighborhoods.
Tragically, the death toll has risen to six, according to officials from the Banadir Region. Among the deceased is a 12-year-old boy who was swept away by floodwaters and later found at the Sobe intersection, where the water had formed a powerful stream.
The reported fatalities include:
-
Two individuals in Hamar Jajab District
-
Two in Hodan District
-
One in Warta Nabadda District
-
One in Wadajir District
Some of the victims drowned while attempting to wade through floodwaters, while others were killed when buildings collapsed during the downpour.
