Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – Heavy fighting has erupted in Laascaanood city on the 16th day consecutively killing at least six people, according to eyewitnesses.
According to the few residents remaining in the city of Laascaanood the Tuesday’s fighting had intensified by the indiscriminate bombing by the Somaliland army targeting civilian neighbourhoods.
Garaad Abdikarin Ali Noor, one of the Dhulbahante clan elders said said that the artillery shelling has targeted houses of the clan elders and civilians were injured.
Meanwhile, the pro-SSC fighters said they had repelled an attack by the Somaliland forces.
However, Somaliland’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, said this morning in a press release that an attack was made on the military bases in Las Anod in efforts to destroy the peace efforts.
Since February 6, there has been heavy fighting in the northern Somali city of Las Anod (Laascaanood) between troops of Somalia’s breakaway region of Somaliland and local militia from the Dhulbahante clan in northern Somalia.
So far, at least 82 people have died and 400 have been wounded, the paramedics and hospitals said.
The exchange of heavy weaponry has resulted more than 85,000 people to flee from the city, according to the United Nations High Commission for the Refugees.
