MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – Heavy clashes are ongoing in the Dayniile district of Mogadishu after angry residents confronted Somali government security forces.
The unrest began when the government deployed police forces, equipped with military vehicles, to the Warlaliska neighborhood in the district. This area has been part of ongoing land disputes in the capital in recent weeks.
Residents, armed with stones and sticks and opposing both the land seizures and the government forces using live ammunition, clashed in several parts of the district.
Reports indicate that security forces are using armored vehicles to demolish houses built by residents on Warlaliska land, which is designated as public land but is reportedly being sold by private businessmen.
Member of Parliament Faisa Mohamed Jeyte strongly condemned the police’s treatment of peaceful demonstrators.
“The police command must immediately stop violating the rights of the people. Citizens have no obligation to face armed forces while exercising their constitutional rights and defending their dignity and property,” the MP said in a statement posted on social media.
