Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – General Shegow Ahmed Ali, who had been imprisoned by the Somali government at Hamar Central Prison, passed away recently in Mogadishu.
Shegow, who was serving a lengthy prison sentence, fell ill while incarcerated and was transferred to Erdogan Hospital (formerly Ex-Digfeer) for treatment after his condition worsened. He had been under the care of correctional officers at the time.
Shegow and several others were arrested and accused of being involved in a violent clash between Somali National Army forces in Dharkeynley district of Mogadishu approximately a year and a half ago. The clash resulted in both fatalities and injuries among security personnel.
On November 2, 2023, Shegow Ahmed Ali (Gen. Shegow) was sentenced to 10 years in military prison by Somalia’s Armed Forces Court. He was also held financially responsible for the death of Sakariye Mohamed Ali and the injury of Deputy Officer Abdullahi Hussein. The two men were members of the security team sent to arrest Shegow at his residence, where he allegedly opened fire in response, according to the prosecution.
Additionally, Ahmed Mohamed Hassan (Abi Ahmed), the commander of Shegow’s security forces, was sentenced to death by firing squad.
