Former Soldier Arrested After Deadly Attack on Puntland Police Officers in Garowe

The Puntland police have arrested a former soldier, Abdirahman Mohamed Ali, who is accused of fatally attacking a group of on-duty police officers in Garowe on Wednesday.

GAROWE (KAAB TV) – The Puntland police have arrested a former soldier, Abdirahman Mohamed Ali, who is accused of fatally attacking a group of on-duty police officers in Garowe on Wednesday.

According to police sources, Abdirahman fled the scene immediately after carrying out the attack but was apprehended during a security operation in Garowe town, aided by intelligence provided by local residents.

The violent incident resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including three police officers affiliated with the Garowe district’s local government. Two additional officers sustained injuries during the attack.

Preliminary investigations suggest the attack may have been triggered by an earlier confrontation, in which Puntland’s tax enforcement unit confiscated a Bajaj (three-wheeled vehicle) reportedly owned and operated by the suspect.

Abdirahman Mohamed Ali is a former member of Puntland’s military forces and had previously served in the Calmikaad mountains. However, he was recently discharged from service due to repeated disciplinary violations, including insubordination.

Following his arrest, Abdirahman has been transferred to Garowe Central Prison. Puntland police officials have confirmed that the suspect will be handed over to the judicial system for formal legal proceedings.

Authorities have condemned the attack and emphasized their commitment to holding those responsible accountable under the law. An official investigation is ongoing.
