MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – A growing concern is spreading among residents of Mogadishu as reports emerge of forced voter registration campaigns carried out across the city.
People are reportedly being rounded up from neighborhoods and marketplaces without regard for their personal circumstances, health conditions, or basic freedoms.
In some cases, passengers traveling in small public vehicles known as “Bajaj” have been forcibly removed and taken to registration centers without prior notice or community consultation.
These actions raise serious concerns about violations of civil liberties, particularly the freedom of movement and a citizen’s right to make free and informed decisions regarding voter registration and participation in elections.
While voter registration is a legal and essential part of the democratic process, it must be conducted in a peaceful, transparent, and voluntary manner to ensure public trust and meaningful participation.
